The video, which was uploaded to YouTube on Thursday, shows the hammerhead shark circling the boat, popping out of the water, and snatching the tarpon as Gorta tried to unhook the fish.“I did not see that 6-foot dorsal fin coming right at me. It grabbed the fish and yanked it out of my hands,” said Gorta. “It was just an intense moment for sure.”According to Gorta, the tarpon was roughly 180 pounds, while the hammerhead shark, which was about 14 feet in length, was estimated to weigh more than 1,300 pounds.Gorta felt bad for the fish, however, due to its large size, he couldn’t rescue it from the hammerhead shark.“We don’t want to drag a fish that big in and risk getting knocked into the water where a monster shark is swimming around us, number one,” Gorta explained. “Number two, it’s a state law that you cannot lift a tarpon over 40-inches out of the water.”Gorta released the tarpon into the water and the hammerhead shark swam away with its “catch of the day.”“Just an incredible experience,” Gorta added. “I’ll never forget it for the rest of my life and I was lucky enough to capture it on GoPro video.”More on Seagull Devours Baby Shark on New Jersey BeachBeached Shark Stuns Families Walking Near Oregon ShoreSharks Bite 2 Surfers Minutes Apart at Florida Beach Stay on targetlast_img read more
