First Treasury counsel steps down

first_imgJonathan Swift QC is to step down as first treasury counsel after seven years, the Attorney General’s Office confirmed today. First Treasury counsel advise and represent the government in major litigation.A spokesman for the attorney’s office said Swift, who practices from 11KBW, will continue in private practice at the bar. James Eadie QC, of Blackstone Chambers, remains the other first Treasury counsel.The spokesman said: ‘Jonathan has said that he had been honoured to act as first treasury counsel (FTC) and the attorney general and the head of the Government Legal Service have both expressed their appreciation for Jonathan’s valuable support, advice and advocacy during his period as FTC.’ Decisions about future arrangements for the FTC, he said, will be taken ‘in due course’.  A freedom of information request by the Guardian newspaper last year revealed Swift has been paid £975,075 over a three-year period for representing the government over the right to protest in Parliament Square and the freedom of information case relating to the release of private correspondence between Prince Charles and government ministers.Over the same period Eadie received more than £2.2m representing the government in matters including the Leveson and Francis inquiries. Swift declined to comment on his decision.last_img read more

Broward County Orders All Golf Courses, Movie Theaters and Marinas Closed

The Order also restates some provisions of Emergency Order 20-01 regarding essential businesses, effective as of 12:01am Tuesday, March 31, 2020.Broward County Golf Courses – All golf courses and movie theaters, including drive-in, indoor and outdoor theaters, should close immediately.Marinas and Boat Launches – All marinas and boat launches, docking, fueling, marine supply, and other marina services (not including piers) should close, until further notice with the following limited additional exception:•  To perform marine supply services, or to allow any boat, ferry, or other vessel to enter a marina for the purpose of fueling such boat, ferry or vessel.Real Estate Sales and Real Property Title Services – Executive Order 20-04 clarifies in person appraisals, inspections, surveys, or other in per-required activities (but, for such other in-person required activities, only those expressly required as part of a written agreement) solely to the extent necessary in connection with real estate purchases and sale agreements entered into prior to March 22, 2020 are permitted while observing all CDC guidelines regarding social distancing and sanitation.All other provisions of Emergency Orders 20-01, 20-02, and 20-03 remain in effect.last_img read more
