The FBI is investigating whether or not funds appropriated for the Jersey City Head Start program were spent fraudulently, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. [fve]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXR6kCUI1_w&feature=youtu.be[/fve]The sources, who spoke to Hudson County View under the condition of anonymity, revealed that the FBI searched the Bramhall Avenue apartment of former Jersey City Head Start Executive Director Robert Mays back on September 11.Mays served at the post between September 2013 and June 2014, according to his LinkedIn page. The feds allegedly also confiscated his used Maserati after searching his apartment.Sources could not confirm or deny if the investigation centered around Mays or a larger-scale probe into the agency.The Head Start programs, an early childhood education system, have dozens of locations across the state – with the Jersey City programs being taken over by the Greater Bergen Community Action nonprofit last May, via The Jersey Journal.The program had previously been managed by the Jersey City Childhood Development Centers since 1965.Mays, a former dean of students at Snyder High School – where he was terminated for excessive absences and tardiness – recently served as the campaign treasurer for Bruce Alston during his run for Assembly.Alston cut ties with him after Mays was arrested on domestic violence charges.Mays did not return a call seeking comment and his voicemail was full, a message left at Jersey City Head Start headquarters was not returned and no one could be reached at the FBI press office on Monday.
