In visit to DPR of Korea UNICEF chief to spotlight childrens needs

The visit beginning Saturday by Carol Bellamy, Executive Director of the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), will highlight results for children that are being achieved with the agency’s support in DPRK, as well as the challenges that remain. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) warned last month that despite a stop-gap resumption of food aid to the hungriest of the hungry in the DPRK, 1.5 million people would still go short over the next six weeks and millions more would be deprived in the second half of the year without speedy additional donations. At least 6.5 million people out of a total population of 22.6 million are considered most at risk.
