ESL and WESA have announced details of the new CS:GO Pro League format for the 9th season which will get underway in April 2019. The brand new format will feature live studio matches, a groups system and an increase to 16 teams in Europe, Americas and Asia-Pacific regions. As aforementioned, the new season will get underway in April 2019, with each region competing in four groups – consisting of four teams in each group. The groups will be pre-seeded based on ESL’s CS:GO World Ranking. The group matches in Europe and America will take place in an offline environment, with ESL UK’s Leicester studio playing host to the European fixtures and a to-be-announced studio in America doing the same. The Asia-Pacific region remains online. The confirmed slots per region are as follows:– Europe: 4 groups from Europe– Americas: 3 groups from North America, 1 group from Latin America– Asia-Pacific: 2 groups from Australia/New Zealand, 1 group from Greater China, 1 group from Southeast AsiaThe winners of the European and American groups will receive a direct spot in the season finals, with the teams that come second and third proceeding to a second round of group stages. In Asia-Pacific, the winners and runners-up are able to secure a second group stage slot. During the second group stage, European teams must come first or second to play at the finals – whereas only the winners of the America and Asia-Pacific regions will proceed further. The new format will see the CS:GO Pro League conclude after a maximum of four weeks, thus taking up a significantly smaller portion of the CS:GO calendar. “The CS:GO Pro League will return with a brand new format featuring live studio matches in Europe and North America, offering more teams the chance to earn one of the coveted spots in the toughest CS:GO league to date,” said Ulrich Schulze, Senior Vice President at ESL. “We want to provide players, teams and the passionate CS:GO fans all around the world with the best possible experience – esports at its purest.”“WESA’s goal was to bring Pro League to the next level. With the great commercial and competitive success of recent years we are grateful to be in the position to invest into improving Pro League even further. We want to make it more attractive for users and players who expressed their interest in improving the schedule, in order to have more time to prepare for matches,” commented Pietro Fringuelli, Commissioner of WESA. “With the new high-quality production in offline locations as well as the new league format, we are confident that the games will become even more attractive and more competitive than ever.”Esports Insider says: We know that most players hate playing online so a move to a LAN environment is one likely to be welcomed by professionals. Also, having a more concise calendar can only be good for CS:GO in general and it frees up more time for offline events. Here’s to a cracking 2019.

Powered by Firework (Photo Courtesy: Goal)Advertisement Former Italian player and current PSG U-19 team coach Thiago Motta has revealed in a brilliant interview that he wants to revolutionise the game by using a “short” team who “control the game with high pressure and a lot of movement with and without the ball.”Advertisement Motta’s idea sees him field a side with a 2-7-2 formation. The goalkeeper is seen to play in the midfield and the side contains only two center backs. In an interview with Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the former PSG midfielder explained his tactic.“My idea it to play offensively. A short team that controls the game, high pressure and a lot of movement with and without the ball,” he said.Advertisement “I want the player that has the ball to always have three or four solutions and two teammates close by to help. The difficulty in football is, often to do things simply but to control the base, pass and get free.“I don’t like the numbers of the field because they trick you. You can be super offensive with a 5-3-2 and defensive in a 4-3-3.“Depending on the quality of the guys. I had a game a while ago where the two full-backs ended up playing as the 9 and 10. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like people like Samuel and Chiellini, born defenders.”Later he went on to say that the goal keeper was seen as the first attacker and who would fit in within the midfield.“No, the goalkeeper counts as one of the midfield seven. For me, the attacker is the first defender and the goalkeeper is the first attacker. The goalkeeper starts the play, with his feet and the attackers are the first to put pressure to recover the ball.”With his sights clearly set on managing the PSG main team one day, it will be interesting to see whether this offensive formation takes him towards his desired goals. Also Read:Ex Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui expresses interest in US National team job…but gets overlooked Advertisement
Singapore’s first football player signed to the English Premier League has missed his compulsory military service and now faces charges that carry up to three years in jail, the city-state’s defence ministry said on Monday.Singapore’s refusal to allow Ben Davis, 18, to defer his national service sparked a debate last year over whether the country’s rigid conscription law is stifling its youth from pursuing their dreams.Davis signed a two-year contract with London club Fulham to become the first player from the Southeast Asian nation to join an English top-flight club.“Mr Benjamin Davis is a National Service (NS) defaulter. He failed to report for NS as required. He is also staying overseas without a valid Exit Permit,” the ministry of defence said in a statement posted on its website. The ministry said Davis has committed offences under the Enlistment Act, and if convicted could be fined up to S$10,000 and/or imprisoned for up to three years. His father, Harvey Davis, who has previously spoken on his behalf, could not be immediately reached for comment.Only a handful of people have met the criteria for long-term deferment from military service, including swimmer Joseph Schooling, who won Singapore’s first ever Olympic gold medal, in the 100 metres butterfly, at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
President of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) Dr Warren Blake has insisted that there is no split within his organisation after he and his general secretary, Garth Gayle, were named on opposite slates for the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) presidential race. Blake is going up for the post of first vice-president on the slate of Vishu Tolan, the former president of the Jamaica Badminton Association, while Gayle is chasing the post of second vice-president on the slate of the JOA’s current secretary general, Christopher Samuda. Blake told The Gleaner on Wednesday that there is no rift within his organisation and he has no problem with Gayle’s decision to run on Samuda’s slate. ‘NO JAAA DIVISION’ “There is really no division in the JAAA. It is important that the JAAA is represented on the JOA because without the JAAA, there would not be a JOA,” said Blake. “The last four years, the JAAA has not been represented on the JOA and we have to seek to correct this anomaly going forward,” he added. The elections are set to take place at the JOA’s office on Cunningham Avenue in Kingston on June 27 with 36 sporting associations holding one vote for each position. Both presidential candidates are looking to replace Mike Fennell, who is not seeking re-election, bringing to an end an unbroken 40-year reign at the helm of Jamaica’s Olympic movement.
It would be different to tell, from the first half that it is Thika who are lower on the table compared to Mathare as the latter did not have a shot on target in the entire opening 45 minutes.Thika United head coach James Nandwa had tweaked up his line-up, in a bid to shut out the ball-playing nature of Francis Kimanzi’s Mathare.Skipper Dennis Odhiambo had been pushed up to defensive midfield, partnering the combative Michael Luvutsi while Sammy Mejja, who has been on and off injury for the last two seasons, was drafted in at left back, with Vincent Omumbo getting back to the team partnering Collins Okumu in defense.Kimanzi had made only one change to his team, bringing in Alphonce Ndonye into midfield, replacing Whyvonne Isuza.Mukangula, who had been impressive in the opening exchanges, was the first to knock on the door with a well taken shot from the right which went straight into Wycliffe Kasaya’s arms.Thika’s tactical discipline was apt ensuring they shut out all the spaces, neutralizing the effect of the deadly Eric Johannah who at times was forced to drop deep into his own half in search of the ball.Thika had another chance in the 21st minute when Joel Tatah went past Bernard Otieno with a little nutmeg on the left but his ambitious shot from distance didn’t do much to trouble Kasaya.Nandwa’s men had two chances back-to- back from a freekick 20 yards out in the 31st and 33rd minutes, but both went begging.First, a training ground routine ended up in Mejja hitting it straight to the wall but the execution was better in the second, Vincent Omumbo’s effort rising a meter above the crossbar. On the other end, Mathare had a free-kick of their own, but Johannah was wasteful hitting the ball up high.-Second half-Thika United’s Michael Mutinda vies for the ball with Mathare United’s Daniel Mwaura. PHOTO/COURTESYIn the second half, Kimanzi seemed to have talked some sense into his side as they came better, playing with more purpose with Ndonye the first to show the side’s intent with a low shot that however went straight into Hamuza Muwonge’s arms. But Thika were not cowed as they kept their rhythm up. They came close on the hour mark with Omumbo’s wonderfully struck freekick being well tipped over the bar by Kasaya as it destined for the top right corner.Kimanzi sought to add some punch into his forward line, pulling out Chris Oduor for Obadiah Ndege. However, Thika still retained their pressure and they came close again in the 75th minute with Bernard Otieno making a superb clearance from a Chibueze cross as Mukangula lurked at the far post waiting to tap in.But that was just a sign of good things to come. Three minutes later, Chibueze opened the scores with a dink over Kasaya from a tight angle after racing onto the ball with the Mathare backline assuming the ball would roll off.Two minutes later, another defensive mishap gave Thika a second goal when Mukangula raced past Robinson Kamura and George ‘Wise’ Owino to volley the ball home past Kasaya.Kimanzi reacted immediately, throwing caution to the wind by pulling out right-back Otieno for youngster Cliff Nyakeya while Duke Abuya came on for Daniel Mwaura.Thika threw everything in attack and Johannah came close with a shot from distance but Muwonge punched the ball out for a corner.Thika managed to hold on with Nandwa bringing in defensive midfielder Samwel Mwanje for Mukangula, a clear bid to secure the win.0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Thika United’s Eugene Mukangula attempts to shoot past Mathare United defender Robinson Kamura.
